Say goodbye to winter blues and hello to spring skin questions! As the season changes, our skin reacts in different ways, and I know how overwhelming it can feel to figure out the right routine. To make it fun and interactive, I reached out to my amazing Instagram community and asked what’s been on their minds. The questions poured in, and I’m thrilled to answer some of them right here in this Smart family’s spring skincare special. Let’s dive in!
How do you close pores on a budget?
First things first — you can’t actually "close" pores, but you can minimize their appearance! Start with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and oil. Then, use a toner with witch hazel or niacinamide to help tighten the skin. Clay masks once a week work wonders to draw out impurities, and a splash of cold water after cleansing gives an instant tightening effect. Budget-friendly favorites? Try a simple green tea toner and a clay mask, depending on your budget.
Best skincare for dry skin?
Dry skin loves hydration! Look for a gentle, hydrating cleanser (avoid foaming ones) and follow up with a hyaluronic acid serum to lock in moisture. Use a thick, ceramide-rich moisturizer to protect your skin barrier. For daytime, don’t forget SPF! One trick I love is applying a thin layer of my favorite nighttime moisturizer and seal with my favorite skin oil or a nighttime sleeping mask at night to wake up with plump, hydrated skin.
Affordable moisturizer for dehydrated skin that gives glow?
Dehydrated skin needs moisture and hydration — two different things! Look for a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid and glycerin to pull water into the skin and lock it in with ingredients like squalane or ceramides. A personal favorite is the Axis Y glow cream — it hydrates beautifully without feeling heavy and gives a lovely glow.
Will wrinkles that started after 30 go away if I start skincare now?
Prevention is easier than correction, but it’s never too late to start! Incorporate a retinol product into your night routine (start slowly, 2-3 times a week) to boost collagen and smooth fine lines. Pair it with a hydrating moisturizer, and always, always use sunscreen during the day. While deep wrinkles might soften but not disappear, consistent care will improve texture and glow!
Any roll-ons for dark underarms that work? I’m tired of trying new ones!
Dark underarms are super common and often caused by friction, sweat, or product buildup. Look for roll-ons with niacinamide, licorice extract, or AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) — they gently exfoliate and brighten the area over time. Nivea’s Whitening Deodorant is a great budget option. Also, exfoliate the area twice a week with a gentle scrub or a chemical exfoliant for faster results.
How do you remove whiteheads?
Whiteheads form when pores get clogged with oil and dead skin. The key is regular exfoliation! Use a salicylic acid (BHA) cleanser to unclog pores and a gentle exfoliating toner 2-3 times a week. Steaming your face once a week before exfoliating can help open up pores and make the process more effective. For stubborn ones, professional extractions are the safest bet.
