MTR
The Historic Invention:Rava Idli:

A new beginning often emerges from unexpected challenges.
During World War II, when rice became scarce due to Japan's invasion of Burma, the primary supplier of rice to South India, the inventive chefs at Bangalore's Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (MTR) sought an alternative to the traditional rice-based idli. They experimented with semolina (sooji), blending it with yogurt and a medley of spices, then steaming the mixture to create the first Rava Idli— a dish that quickly became a beloved staple in South Indian Cuisine. This innovation not only addressed the wartime rice shortage, but also introduced a healthy and flavorful addition to the culinary landscape.Building on this legacy of innovation, MTR has expanded globally, with outlets in cities like Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lampur, London, Seattle, and now Kathmandu. Here, MTR 1924 Kathmandu welcomes everyone at its locations in Kamaladi and near the Pashupatinath Temple, offering authentic vegetarian South Indian flavors to all the families here.
