In a powerful celebration of World Environment Day 2025, Marriott India and
Nepal proudly achieved a significant environmental milestone—the plantation of 100,000 trees across its portfolio of over
150 hotels. This region-wide effort reflects Marriott’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and ecological restoration,
building upon the success of its "Two Trees per Room" initiative launched in 2024.
As a proud contributor to this achievement, Aloft Kathmandu Thamel stood out with its plantation of over 700 trees and
a staff-led clean-up hike along the scenic Tarebhir hiking trail—making a meaningful impact both in greening the future
and cleaning the present.
The Tarebhir initiative brought together more than 40 associates who hiked the trail, collecting plastic waste and other
litter along the way. The initiative combined wellness, community spirit, and environmental action—reinforcing Aloft’s
ethos of purposeful living.
"This year, we chose to take action on two fronts—planting trees for the future and cleaning up the present," said Vikram
Singh, General Manager of Aloft Kathmandu Thamel. “The 700 trees we planted and the waste we cleared from the Tarebhir
trail are both steps toward a greener, more mindful community. At Aloft, sustainability is not a slogan—it’s a culture we
live and breathe every day.”
The larger Marriott initiative was a scaled-up version of the impactful 2024 “Two Trees per Room” campaign, which had
resulted in over 32,600 trees planted by 4,900 volunteers. This year, Marriott India and Nepal expanded their
environmental impact exponentially, working with local reforestation organizations to plant trees in areas selected for
biodiversity enhancement, ecosystem restoration, and community benefit.
"Marriott India is incredibly proud to have successfully achieved our goal of planting 100,000 trees, a testament to our
profound dedication to environmental responsibility," said Sanjay Gupta, Chairman of the Marriott India Business Council.
“This ambitious goal truly underscores our belief that sustainability is not just a passing trend, but a fundamental pillar of
responsible hospitality. We are committed to making a lasting, positive impact on our environment for generations to
come.”
Aloft Kathmandu Thamel’s dual initiative not only contributed to Marriott’s larger goal but also deepened its own ties
with the local community and environment. The hotel continues to lead in implementing sustainable operations—ranging
from energy-efficient systems to robust waste management—further aligning with Marriott’s global sustainability vision.
