The Show Stoppers
We’ve heard of designer bags, clothes, shoes, jewelry but what about designer leaves? Nature is thriving in its own designer industry in the most eco-friendly way.

Have you ever stopped to wonder at the intricate details of leaves and flowers? Their colours and textures? An ‘ugly’ flower or plant just doesn’t exist in the dictionary of flower lovers. Each one is unique and beautiful in their own way, but yes there are some of those that really stand out with their own personalities.
It is very difficult for a plant lover to choose the ‘best looking’ indoor plant because it is like prioritizing one child over another. So, I am going to talk about the few unique and impressive plants that I have or I wish to have in my house. Having these plants indoor has added so much beauty and elegance to my living areas. Now that the monsoons are here, I take them out every once a week to give them a natural shower.
The first on my list is the Fiddle Leaf.
Ficus lyrata with an its large leaves is such a popular choice for interior design. If you can let them grow big and keep them in a spot with bright indirect sunlight, adding sophistication to your living area.
The next is the Philodendron. This is a large genus of flowering plants in the Araceae family and are very popular for their vibrant foliage, shapes and sizes. For example, the Philodendron 'Pink Princess' has such beautiful dark foliage with splashes of pink variegation which is truly stunning.
Monsteras - wow…. a beautiful family of plants completely the opposite of the name that it bears. The large glossy leaves are just so fascinating especially the Monstera Delicosa, the Monstera Delicosa Variegated, Albo Monstera Deliciosa and the Monstera Thai Constellation.
Another very impressive house plant is the beautiful aroid, Anthurium veitchii. Also known as the King Anthurium, the size of its long leaves, the texture and the vein patterns give it a unique character. Anthuriums, in general, are often associated with hospitality and happiness.
The Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia) is a spectacular indoor plant that makes a bold statement with its striking large glossy banana like leaves. This beautiful houseplant is becoming increasingly popular among plant lovers.
Last but not the least, the one and only ZZ plant. Why the name ZZ? It comes from the genus name, Zamioculcas and the species name, Zamiifolia, which refers to the plant's resemblance to foliage in the Zamia genus. They have beautiful stunning polished foliage and it thrives with minimal care which makes them one of the most striking indoor plants.
Now that we are getting regular rain showers, you might want to take your indoor plants out once in a while for an occasional rain shower. Rainwater is a great tonic for all plants and your indoor plants will thank you for letting them take in all the moisture they need. Just be careful not to let them stay out in the burning sun.
Keep cool, you and your plants. Happy gardening folks.
